Canterbury Dance Festival
Canterbury Dance Festival 2020
Thursday 6th - Wednesday 12th August
***UPDATE 30th JUNE 2020***
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but despite all my social distance planning for a safe Dance Festival we can not go ahead due to ‘Live Performances’ not being allowed by the Government.
I am so sorry. I was forever hopeful. Gutted :(
See you in 2021.
I will return the money within the next 2 weeks to you all. I will contact the main email address that was on the registration form to ask for your bank details over the next week.
Stay safe and hopefully Beckenham and Orpington dance festivals can go ahead by then. 🤞
Please see the letter from the Gulbenkian below.

***UPDATE*** May 30th 2020
All England Dance Regional and National Finals will now take place in 2022.
The Qualifying period for nominated festivals will therefore run between April 2021 and March 2022.
In order to enable dances that had already been choreographed prior to the Covid-19 pandemic to compete in their original form All England Dance have altered the age bands for duets, trios and groups as outlined below. This will be for the 2022 Competition Only. All solo sections will remain the same with the except of E section which will for 2022 only be 15-19 years.
Duets, Trios and Groups Age on 01st September 2021
Junior 11 years and under
Inter 15 years and under
Senior 22 years and under
How to Enter - 2021
Entries must be made by: Sunday ...... MARCH (at the absolute latest). The programme will be compiled in the Easter Holidays. (No late entries will be accepted).
Once entries reach our limit for the 7 days – the online booking system will be closed even if it is before the closing date.
NO ENTRIES WILL BE TAKEN BY POST
After you have made your dance entries online you will be sent an INVOICE – this must be paid by BACS within 5 days of receipt of this. Failure to do this will result in cancellation of entry into the festival.
Please note that all sections are now in line with the ALL ENGLAND DANCE COMPETITION and the timings for some classes have changed.
The qualifying age is now from September 1st, the year before the Festival ( 01/09/20 ).
The Services of our Photographer – David White, and a new DVD technician will be there also.
Our Festival is held at the:
Gulbenkian Theatre, University of Kent, Giles Lane , Canterbury, Kent, CT2 7NB.
There is a CAFÉ BAR open from 8am to 10pm serving hot food INCLUDING BREAKFAST. (There is also a licenced bar)
There has been no increase of Festival fees this year.
We ask you to send in your entries promptly as they will be registered on a first come first served basis, and no late entries will be accepted now due to the BOPA licences that have to be provided from the Child in Employment Services with logged performances of dances in advance of the event.
The BOPA child licence information will be sent to all Teachers and Festival organisers that have entered their pupils after the closing date. Each competitor has to be registered with the Council that the Festival is held, giving full information of the child, dances performing and the chaperone or parent that is bringing them – for Canterbury Dance Festival it is the KCC.
YOU MUST only provide music on CD format, please make sure you use only CD-R format only as the machine does not recognise RW (rewritable) CD’s or ( + R ) CD’s. Some CDs do not read on high quality theatre CD machines - so please have a copy of your music on a different brand of CD to the one you hand in for a back- up.
Look forward to seeing you all again in the summer
